Waddya know — turns out I do have two little Monarch caterpillars and not just one! Hopefully this doubles my chances of seeing one through to maturity. I’d be quite happy with one, but ecstatic if both make it across the finish line. They’re still tiny but have already nearly doubled in size. OK, when you go from the size of half a grain of rice to maybe two grains of rice, you’re still tiny, but they’ve already increased the size of the holes they’re eating in the milkweed leaves.
When I take the platter out tomorrow that I have them and the leaves on I’ll try to get another picture or two. The macro lens on my camera sure is needed with these little guys.
Edit 7/4/2025
Time for fresh leaves so an opportunity to take an update picture of these little critters:

I need to put a penny in the picture next time as the scale isn’t apparent here other than you can see the texture in the paper towel the leaves are laying on. These aren’t full size milkweed leaves which can easily be 8-10 inches long but instead are just the tiny new leaf clusters just starting to expand.
So far so good!
