Encouraging

I’ve been busily scattering seeds via my “seed bomb” delivery system. tossing these little compost-and-seed lumps into vacant lots, power line cuts, wild road medians and the like. But with the prolific crop I had this year I’ve got way too many seeds to deliver by this method with each bomb only having half a dozen or so seeds glued to them. So I’ve been making up little seed packets in some little zip seal plastic bags – a couple of dozen seeds with a printed insert with some guidance on how and where to plant them – and I’ve been handing them out at various venues, prompted by a “Free Milkweed Seed” sign so I don’t have to accost people in any way, they can approach me with their interest.

And it has been rewarding to see the number of people interested in promoting the distribution of milkweed. One lady yesterday indicated she’s in the midst of creating a wildflower garden and enthusiastically accepted a packet. Others cooed “Oh, I’ve been looking for some of these!” for either their garden or just to spread. Many just walk by without a second glance of course but not everyone has a place to grow this beautiful plant so that doesn’t bother me. Instead I’ll remain quite encouraged by the excitement so many demonstrated by receiving these little packets of hope.
